As you may be aware the government has allocated additional funding to schools in the form of ‘The Pupil Premium’. The Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011 and is allocated to schools based on those students who have been registered for free school meals at any point over the last six years. Schools also receive funding for children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months and children of service personnel.
It is understood that schools are best-placed to identify how the money should be spent for the students within the school as a whole. Therefore, schools are free to spend this money in the most appropriate ways to ensure that the attainment gap between Pupil Premium students and Non-Pupil Premium students is narrowed, particularly in Maths and English.
Each year group Progress Leader, under the leadership of Miss Bolam (Assistant Principal), is responsible for monitoring the progress of students to ensure that the academic outcomes for those pupils in receipt of free school meals in the last six years are the same for those without. We have also identified Mr. Simon Frazer, Vice Principal, as the person responsible at a senior leadership level for Pupil Premium and have asked one of our directors, Mr. Alan Metcalf, to oversee the use of this money.
